If you look up minimalism on wikipedia.com this is what you will get: Simple living is a minimal, low-consumption way of living sometimes called minimalism. People who live this way are sometimes called minimalists.
There are so many blogs and so much information about simple living on the internet that I am having a hard time deciding what the real definition of simple living is. In my mind, minimalism and simple living are different things.
Somewhere I heard or read that a minimalist only has one of everything. For instance, one pair of scissors or one pair of jeans. That seems a little extreme to me. In our house we have a couple of pairs of scissors – one to cut paper in our junk drawer and one to cut food in the kitchen and I have multiple pairs of jeans – a nice pair for going out and a more casual pair for hanging out.
The more I research this the more I realize there really is not one definition for simple living and there really is not one definition for minimalism. If you have children, living simply is probably going to look different for you than for someone without children.
The more I look into this the more I also realize that this really is a journey. It will take some time for us to figure out what kind of simple living really works best for our family.
