My friend Cassie is a counselor and she is in a dream group. Whenever I have an unusual dream I call or email her and she is kind enough to help me try to figure out what it is really about.
For example, I recently had a dream where I was paddling in a boat towards an island. Once I reached the island there was an old, grey and weathered cottage that I went in. Cassie said she would need to speak to me some more, but that her first thoughts were that the boat ride might represent some sort of personal journey (our family’s journey to living simply perhaps?) and that the image of a house is often the symbol for your soul.
I think this is fascinating stuff, so I decided to do some more research. I found the website Dream Moods (www.dreammoods.com). On the site they include information about dreams and what some of the more common dreams (such as flying or falling) might mean.
There is also a dream dictionary where you can look up what different things might mean. When I clicked on “H” and then “House” this is what it said:
“To see a house in your dream, represents your own soul and self. Specific rooms in the house indicate a specific aspect of your psyche. In general, the attic represents your intellect, the basement represents the unconscious, etc. If the house is empty, then it indicates feelings of insecurity. If the house is shifting, then it suggests that you are going through some personal changes and changing your belief system. To dream that a house has no walls, represents a lack of privacy. You feel that everyone is looking over your shoulder or up in your business.”
Have you had any interesting and unusual dreams lately? If so, what were they about and what do you think they mean?
